Easy Bookstagram Post Ideas

1. Shelfie

One of the easiest ways to showcase your love for books is through a photo of your bookshelf! I love when Bookstagrammers post photos of their shelves because not only do I get decor inspiration, but I can also look through the spines for book recommendations.

Taking a photo of your shelves is super fast and doesn’t require much staging like other Bookstagram photos. Want creative bookshelf ideas? Check out this post with bookcase organization suggestions!

2. Colored bookstack

If you’ve seen my Bookstagram feed, you know I’m obsessed with arranging my books by color. If you’re looking for Bookstagram post ideas, try grouping books with similar spine colors together to create an ombre look.

You can also find spines with similar patterns, like polka dots or stylistic fonts, and stack them up for aesthetic look.

3. Instagram Reels

If you haven’t dabbled in Instagram Reels yet, now’s your chance to give it a try! Instagram is notorious for prioritizing users who try out the platform’s newest features, and I’ve already seen a growth my in account after posting some IG Reels. Check out the reel above that got 150k+ views, which is more than 10x my follower count.

4. Book Review

Everyone loves a good book review. Your followers are most likely there in-part because of your book recommendations, so take the time to go in-depth with one book.

I always like to include a star rating, my overall thoughts, and who should read the book. Definitely play around with your captions and work on developing a review style that works well for you!

5. Last, Now, Next

Another creative Bookstagram post idea is a last, now, next photo. Grab the last book you finished, your current read, and the book you plan on reading next, and take a picture of the three novels together.

This style of Bookstagram post gives you a chance to talk about your current read and give a mini-review of your last book, as well as get people’s thoughts on your upcoming read. You can also use ask your followers what their last, now, next reads are, as QOTDs are great ways to increase your engagement!

6. Your TBR list

I’m sure I’m not alone when I say my TBR (to be read) list is overwhelming. If you’re in need of some Bookstagram post ideas, gather a few unread books together and show off your TBR.

You can also add a theme to your stack—in the photo above, I included intimidating books that I haven’t read yet. I was honest about why they scared me and why I haven’t gotten around to reading them. Be authentic!

7. Your favorite reading spot

Show your followers where you like to read! Whether that’s a reading nook or your bed, get creative with a photo of where you spend your time reading. If you’re not comfortable with showing your face on your account, snap a pic of your reading area with a few recommended books highlighted.

8. A series you love

I mostly read standalone books, but there are some series out there I absolutely love. If you’ve read a great series lately or want to spotlight a childhood favorite, gather your books up and showcase the series!

9. An audiobook or eBook

I read a lot of books on my Kindle and occasionally listen to audiobooks, but I always struggle with ideas for how to feature them on my Bookstagram. If you read a great eBook or listened to an incredible audiobook, don’t be afraid to show it off!

Try putting your phone or Kindle on a background with a physical book, and make sure your lighting doesn’t have too much glare.

10. An unexpected book you ended up loving

I love when I end up giving 5 stars to a book I thought I wasn’t even going to like. It’s important to read books outside your comfort zone, whatever that may be.

In the post above, I highlighted a historical fiction book that I highly recommend. I rarely read that genre, so I was pleasantly surprised by how quickly I tore through the book.

11. #BookstagramMadeMeDoIt

I have purchased WAY too many books because of Bookstagram…but to be real, that’s the whole point of this bookish community! I love sharing book recommendations and finding out about new books. Gather some of your favorite books you bought because of Bookstagram for a fun #BookstagramMadeMeDoIt bookstack!

12. A book you didn’t love

I always struggle with posting negative reviews. I don’t want to offend anyone and say the wrong thing, but I’ve realized that it’s my Bookstagram and an important part of sharing book recommendations is talking about books that you didn’t actually like.

In the post above, you’ll see I shared my honest opinions in a constructive way. I didn’t tag the author or the publisher, which is so important.

Don’t tag them in a negative review! Publishing a book is already hard enough; authors don’t need a bunch of notifications directing them to a bad review. Find a way to balance a constructive discussion about a book while still being honest and authentic.

12. Books grouped by genre

There are so many book genres out there, and everyone has different preferences! Grab a stack of books from your favorite genre (mine are thrillers and romance) and talk about why you love the genre and those books.

In your QOTD, you can ask readers to recommend you a book of that genre or ask them what their top book genres are.

13. Meet the Bookstagrammer

For my last suggestion on this list of Bookstagram post ideas, I recommend creating a “meet the Bookstagrammer” photo! Take the time to introduce yourself, share your favorite books and some facts, and open up the conversation to meet other Bookstagrammers.

Bookstagram is an incredible community filled with kind, like-minded book nerds. Whether you’re looking to grow your account or just share your favorite book recommendations, I hope these Bookstagram post ideas inspired you in some way!
