New August Book Releases for 2020

The Switch – Beth O’Leary

Cover for August 2020 book release The Switch by Beth O'Leary, featuring an older woman and a young woman walking a dog, in London, England.

Eileen is sick of being 79.
Leena’s tired of life in her twenties.
Maybe it’s time they swapped places…

When overachiever Leena Cotton is ordered to take a two-month sabbatical after blowing a big presentation at work, she escapes to her grandmother Eileen’s house for some overdue rest. Eileen is newly single and about to turn eighty. She’d like a second chance at love, but her tiny Yorkshire village doesn’t offer many eligible gentlemen.

Once Leena learns of Eileen’s romantic predicament, she proposes a solution: a two-month swap. Eileen can live in London and look for love. Meanwhile Leena will look after everything in rural Yorkshire. But with gossiping neighbors and difficult family dynamics to navigate up north, and trendy London flatmates and online dating to contend with in the city, stepping into one another’s shoes proves more difficult than either of them expected.

Leena learns that a long-distance relationship isn’t as romantic as she hoped it would be, and then there is the annoyingly perfect – and distractingly handsome – school teacher, who keeps showing up to outdo her efforts to impress the local villagers. Back in London, Eileen is a huge hit with her new neighbors, but is her perfect match nearer home than she first thought?

I have seen this book everywhere and I’m (not-so) patiently waiting for the U.S. release! I adored Beth O’Leary’s previous bestseller THE FLATSHARE and cannotttt wait for THE SWITCH. If you love the premise as much as I do, you can preorder it here!

The Silent Wife – Karin Slaughter

Book cover for The Silent Wife by Karin Slaughter a mystery thriller novel, with a blue heart traced on a window, in Santa Clara, California.

“A young woman is brutally attacked and left for dead. The police investigate but the trail goes cold. Until a chance assignment takes GBI investigator Will Trent to the state penitentiary, and to a prisoner who says he recognizes the MO. The attack looks identical to the one he was accused of eight years earlier. The prisoner’s always insisted that he was innocent, and now he’s sure he has proof. The killer is still out there.”

Karin Slaughter is the queen of mystery thrillers, and THE SILENT WIFE already has a 4.46 ★ rating on Goodreads. You can preorder it here.

Invisible Girl – Lisa Jewell

Book cover for August 2020 book release Invisible Girl by Lisa Jewell, featuring some flowers in San Francisco, California.

LONDON: On a fine avenue of grand houses, big cars and electronic gates, lies a neglected urban wasteland.

It is nearly midnight, and very cold. Yet in this dark place of long grass and tall trees where cats hunt and foxes shriek, a girl is waiting…

When Saffyre Maddox was ten something terrible happened and she’s carried the pain of it around with her ever since. The man who she thought was going to heal her didn’t, and now she hides from him, invisible in the shadows, learning his secrets; secrets she could use to blow his safe, cosy world apart.

Owen Pick is invisible too. He’s thirty-three years old and he’s never had a girlfriend, he’s never even had a friend. Nobody sees him. Nobody cares about him.

But when Saffyre Maddox disappears from opposite his house on Valentine’s night, suddenly the whole world is looking at him. Accusing him. Holding him responsible.

Because he’s just the type, isn’t he? A bit creepy?

I absolutely love Lisa Jewell’s creepy thrillers so I’m super excited for INVISIBLE GIRL, which you can preorder here.

“Beyah comes from a life of poverty and neglect; Samson from a family of wealth. When the two find themselves spending the summer as neighbors, they soon realize money is one of the few things they don’t have in common.

Their bond is too intense to ignore, but with only ten weeks separating them from the start of their new lives on opposite ends of the country, Beyah and Samson decide to stay in the shallow end of a summer fling. What they don’t realize is that a rip current is coming and it’s about to drag both their hearts out to sea.”

I haven’t read anything by Colleen Hoover but I know she’s really loved in the romance community. The cover is soo gorgeous and you can preorder HEART BONES here.

So when Sophie finds out that Nora has returned, she hopes Nora’s stay is short.

“After the first season of her true crime podcast became an overnight sensation and set an innocent man free, Rachel Krall is now a household name―and the last hope for thousands of people seeking justice. But she’s used to being recognized for her voice, not her face. Which makes it all the more unsettling when she finds a note on her car windshield, addressed to her, begging for help.

The small town of Neapolis is being torn apart by a devastating rape trial. The town’s golden boy, a swimmer destined for Olympic greatness, has been accused of raping a high school student, the beloved granddaughter of the police chief. Rachel throws herself into interviewing and investigating―but the mysterious letters keep showing up in unexpected places. Someone is following her, and she won’t stop until Rachel finds out what happened to her sister twenty-five years ago. Officially, Jenny Stills tragically drowned, but the letters insists she was murdered―and when Rachel starts asking questions, nobody seems to want to answer.”
